“I have one clear piece of advice for guests considering booking the Melia “The Level service” do not do it without explicit, written confirmation of the facilities you will actually receive. During the Aste Nagusia festival in August 2025, Meliá Bilbao completely closed their advertised Level Lounge to repurpose the space for extra restaurant seating. Premium Level guests were placed into a basic, unequipped meeting room. The space was completely unfit for business travellers; you couldn't take a video call/ phone call, step away from your laptop safely, work comfortably or go to the bathroom without packing up everything. You would honestly find better amenities in a local café which I did. This downgrade was entirely profit-driven, as they reopened “The Lounge” the exact day after the festival ended. This leads me to believe management chose to significantly downgrade a premium guest service for short term monetary gain. Based on my experience I suspect they will think nothing of renting out their new rooftop lounge for corporate events or weddings in the future, leaving premium guests displaced. I am a loyal Meliá Level member and we are currently staying at the Meliá Serrano in Madrid, so I know how high the brand's standards usually are. Management at the Bilbao property, however, showed a complete lack of care and contempt to their premium customers. As a final note It was only by contacting Melia Hotels International did I get a response from Melia Bilbao despite several attempts to engage about our experiences so that should tell you what senior management think of their premium guests at this hotel.”

“I simply do not understand the low reviews! This is an absolutely exceptional hotel. Every detail was perfection. Upgrading our stay to include access to the Level lounge was definitely worth it. The views and atmosphere was perfect for getting some work done and enjoying sunset. We were here during the eclipse and they put glasses in our room so we could view. We were able to watch it from the Level lounge rooftop. This was such a thoughtful touch and truly made our stay memorable! They also put small Basque desserts in our room to welcome us. The room is spacious and clean. The service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant doesn't have the most stellar food, but in a food city like Bilbao there's plenty of great spots within walking distance. The location was perfect for visiting the Guggenheim and there a tram stop steps away which makes it easy to explore without a car. Thank you to the Meliã staff for making this an exceptional stay. “Estuvimos en el hotel del 24 al 26 de abril en la habitación 603. El mismo día de marchar, reservamos telefónicamente la misma habitación para el 12 de agosto haciendo hincapié en que queríamos esa habitación en concreto, ya que estaba libre. Es la única Junior Suite con terraza y es mucho más grande que la habitación que nos dieron (habitación 203), que es mucho más pequeña. Hablamos con Zigor en recepción y nos informó de que estaba ocupada. Me quedé con cara de idiota después de recorrer más de 300 km para no tener la habitación que habíamos reservado. El servicio Level está muy bien, pero en hora punta no hay distinción en la cola del desayuno. Zigor se portó muy bien con nosotros, aunque no pudo solucionar el tema de la habitación. A él le daría 10 estrellas por su trato y amabilidad.”See more reviews
