Dresden

Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Germany, no visitor could be surprised that it is popularly referred to as ‘Florence on the Elbe'. The number of cultural treasures it is home to is simply spectacular.

The Florence of Germany

After being destroyed in World War II, Dresden once again rose from the ashes to recover all its splendour. The Frauenkirche Church in Neumarkt Square is the symbol of this reconstruction. The Semper Opera, the Staattskapelle and the Philharmonic, make Dresden a must for all music lovers. A visit to the Zwinger, a series of Baroque palaces is also a must. Wine lovers can enjoy the wine-growing areas on the banks of the Elbe. Taking a cruise on the river is a really relaxing way to discover some of the secrets of Dresden.

The official currency is the euro. Payment by credit card is accepted in most places.

The official language is German, although Upper Saxon, the Saxony dialect, is also used.
