Between Tarifa and Barbate, surrounded by windmills and fields full of sunflowers, this city has a history that dates back to Roman times. The old city began to form around Zahara Castle and Jadraza Palace, a huge defensive fortress to protect against pirates and buccaneers. Today the area is home to markets, musical performances and movie screenings. Chancas are a type of tank that was built inside the castle to preserve fish.
