Joan Miró decided to return and settle permanently in Mallorca at the age of 63. His relationship with the island has always been very special. His mother and grandparents were Mallorcan, and he used to spend summer on the island when he was a child before falling in love with a Mallorcan woman named Pilar Juncosa Iglesias. Here on his beloved island, he made his dream of having his own space for creation and experiment come true.

The Sert Workshop in Cala Major was built by his good friend the architect Josep Lluís Sert, and is the place where the artist created a third of all his work. Miró and Sert met in the early 1930s and since then have built fruitful and lasting personal and professional bonds consolidated by their common concerns. In particular, her desire to combine art and architecture and her interest in simplicity to get to the essence of things. In 1981, Joan Miró and his bride, Pilar Juncosa, donated the artist's workshops and everything they contained to the city of Palma.

The "Mallorca through Miró” experience reveals almost 30 years of incessant work on the collection of incalculable art and sculpture.

Take a leisurely tour of the two workshops –Sert and Son Boter–, the sculpture garden, and the Moneo Building, the Foundation's museum space.
