    Amazing place, great with food allergies. Stayed in the level and was a good upgrade definitely worth it. We celebrated my daughter's birthday and they surprised us with a cake and champagne. Everyone was so nice!

    Great resort for a family getaway. I was impressed by the quality and selection of food. There are activities everyday, a splash park and a gigantic pool that our kids loved. The resort is pretty big and there is a shuttle service pretty. Especially KIDSDOM, the perfect place for some down time (when we needed a break from the water and sun).

    We’ve been here about 6 times and there have been lots of changes since the last time we were here- one big change being Kidsdom the game room inside the Bazaar restaurant. It was always clean and well-maintained and Elizabeth was very nice and very funny. If you’re here definitely stop in!

    This will be a long review in hopes of helping someone else decide if this place is right for their next vacation. I traveled with my wife and 2 children and we’ve stayed at several all-inclusive resorts across the Caribbean/Central America. We decided on Melia Caribe based on reviews for family friendly activities at the resort/nearby. We just so happened to stumble upon an online deal where “The Level” master suite garden view room was the same price as the regular master suite garden view. We booked without fully knowing what “perks” came with being in The Level room. Getting to the resort: We read reviews and also heard from some folks while we there that the free transportation to and from the airport was unreliable at best. I can’t confirm or deny because we chose to book private transportation both ways due to having younger kids based on those reviews. The resort is only about 30 minutes from the airport. Check-in/check-out: being part of The Level, we were able to book in a separate, more comfortable lounge vs standing in line at the front desk. They had drinks and snacks as you waited. We went to lunch, were given our room keys, our towel cards, and a gentleman loaded our bags for us on a golf cart and drove us to our room. Check-in including lunch took about 2 hours or so but understandable as we arrived prior to 3pm when most hotel rooms are ready, give or take. Check-out was a breeze, maybe 2 minutes? The room: AC worked great. “Mini bar” is a fridge with a couple beers, a few soda, a few bottled waters, a couple juices, and 2 bags of potato chips. We were pretty frustrated because we had to ask multiple times to have our mini bar replenished towards the end of our stay (only once did they actually show up and we left housekeeping a tip every morning). The last 3 days, we ended up bringing water bottles back from the bar. There were some items in disrepair inside of the room but nothing that impacted our stay, just more or less eyesores for a relatively expensive resort. We stayed in building 49, right across from The Level pool and buffet. Extremely convenient. Loud at night, as you can hear the music from the lobby until 11ish each night. Fine for us but definitely loud if you have younger kids or go to bed early. Our king sized bed was very comfortable. The balcony overlooked a small portion of the pool. Kids slept on the pull out couch. I would not recommend this setup if your kids are older than elementary age as the pullout is not designed for much weight, again it worked for us. Bathroom has everything needed, but shower is extremely small. Resorts grounds: stunning. One of the more beautiful resorts we’ve ever been to. Very well maintained. With the maintenance comes noise. Multiple times, we woke up early to leaf blowers or trimmers, etc. Absolutely huge. Pretty long walk from the lobby to the beach. There are golf carts that will bring you back and forth. They say every 5ish minutes. Sometimes it is more often and a couple times, we waited as long as it would’ve taken to just walk the whole thing. 2 pool areas. One for Level guests only and a much bigger one where they have occasional activities (pool Zumba, foam party, etc) that everyone can enjoy. Both were great but one huge downfall to pretty much any all-inclusive but especially noticeable here due to amount of people vs amount of lounge chairs. If you aren’t at the pool/beach by 7:30-8am, forget about having a lounger for you and your family unless you get lucky. This was less noticeable at the Level pool. We got lucky a few times but most of the time, we just set our stuff off to the side. Beach is well maintained, fluffy sand, calm waters and occasionally had activities. Same chair issue there. Service: not great. Very few friendly interactions. Tips did not help in our experience either. Drinks were mostly average. Food was the biggest bummer. Buffet food and mostly very average. LONG lines to book the restaurants and we only got to go to 2 because we refused to wait in hour+ long lines at 7:30am just to book mediocre restaurants.

    We had a mixed experience during a 5 night stay over Easter 2026, staying in a Grand Suite within “The Level” (premium) section. BEACH: stunning to look at. White sand and nice shades of blue. Mild waves, quite swimmable. There was some seaweed / sargassum despite this being pre-season for that and the water was a bit murky once you were up close. Rating 8/10. POOLS: main swimming pool was enormous. Also had access to the exclusive Level pool. Water temperature borderline cold but still comfortable. Nice tropical settings with lots of palm trees around. Rating 8/10. WATER PARK: not bad for an in-resort park, but slides catered more to smaller kids (not particularly high adrenaline). Isolated from rest of resort in a cemented and enclosed area which made it very muggy inside. Rating 6/10. SUN LOUNGERS: plenty of them around and reasonably well spaced out versus what it could have been but by 8am every morning most loungers had already been reserved regardless of location (beach, pool, exclusive Level sections…). Therefore had to wake up early specifically to book loungers. Use of towel cards (i.e. towel rationing) also quite tacky. Rating 4/10. KIDS CLUB / GAMES ROOM: kids club more like a toddlers club. Nothing of interest for ages 5+. Games room was more appealing for my kids (ping pong, board games, etc) but unsupervised and kids free to enter and leave as they please. Rating 5/10. F&B: had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. Decent quality buffets. Liked main buffet and Riviera (The Level) equally. Tauro (steakhouse) was ok. Cocktails were mostly nice (and strong) and prepared from scratch. Premium spirits available for Level guests (Grey Goose etc.), but only if you knew to ask. Rating 7/10. GRAND SUITE: very spacious, but extremely dated with 90’s decor. Comfy bedding and air con worked well. Phone didn’t work for the entire time. Rating 4/10. SERVICE: all over the place. Some staff were quite pleasant while others couldn’t care less. Communication difficult as majority of staff spoke limited English. Lots of delays including a 3 hour (!!) wait for some housekeeping items on our arrival day, made multiple complaints afterwards and requests to meet management, all of which were ignored. Rating 3/10. CROWDS: this was the root of the problem on service (as well as sun lounger) issues. The hotel was at capacity and couldn’t handle the volume of guests. Queues everywhere - to enter restaurants, to check-in (1+ hour queue even at the Level). Only managed to book 1 a la carte restaurant during a 5 night stay, and even then had to queue as they had overbooked it. Rating 1/10. VALUE: booked during Black Friday sales, I paid around USD 600 per night. All inclusive for a suite within the Level during peak Easter holidays. Seemed like a solid deal and at that price point I could forgive some of the issues raised. Rating 8/10. OVERALL: rating 6/10. Lots of positives with a few notable issues. Would have been nice if management had bothered to even acknowledge my service complaints, this did leave a sour note. Would I go back? Probably not unless it was off peak dates.
