    Pros: - Fantastic room, especially if you have a baby thanks to the separate rooms and kitchenette - Very friendly and helpful staff, again especially if you have a baby! He loved being entertained by the staff. - Excellent pool and gardens. - Restaurants: Nokkyo, Tacorini, Neguri beach club and Breakfast buffet all good - Maintenance issues were resolved quickly - Nice beach and sea - Excellent gym and free classes - Excellent cocktails Cons to improve: - The cot we pre-booked and confirmed for the room wasn't there when we arrived. Our baby had to sleep first part of the night on the floor... - The room wasn't clean on arrival, particularly the bathroom, with hairs in the bath (didn't look like it had been cleaned at all) and dirty taps. We had to clean this ourselves to make safe for the baby - Volcan restaurant is very disappointing. Below average food and the service was shockingly bad, particularly in comparison to Nokkyo - Food buffet is average to poor for lunch and dinner. - Not enough beds on the beach unless you get down at 7am... What's more annoying is there are some premium beds available at an extra 50 dollar charge. Very disappointing to be charged extra for their own inadequacy - A lot of plastic bottles and no recycling option. Bit ironic to then be showing the Earth Day movie - The transfer service booked by the hotel was poor. Low quality vehicle with limited safety belts. Confusion around the payment being full covered via the first trip even though we clarified this via email. Pressure to "provide good tip" from first driver. Limited English. And initially dropped off at the wrong terminal.

    We liked the experience. Stefanie and Louis were great servers at Tacorini restaurant - full of joy,fast service paired with great recommendations. Great vibe overall.

    If you are looking for a quiet atmosphere and a sense of luxury, this is the perfect choice. I also stayed at Lopesan for a few days, but Zel was superior in every aspect and truly perfect.

    We recently stayed at Zel Punta Cana and had a pleasant overall experience. The rooms were spacious, clean, and nicely designed, making our stay comfortable and relaxing. The pools were definitely a highlight—beautiful, well-maintained, and a great place to unwind throughout the day. That said, the food was average and felt quite repetitive, with similar options offered daily. The service was also just okay—nothing particularly standout, but not bad either. One downside was the beach—it’s a bit far from the main areas, and there weren’t enough sunbeds available, which made it less enjoyable at times. Overall, it’s a nice resort with great accommodations and pool areas, but there’s room for improvement when it comes to dining variety, service, and beach convenience.

    Great location, not far from the beach. Lots of pools, very relaxed vibe. Casino is, meh, small. Restaurants had very good food. Buffet is average.

    We stayed at **Zel Meliá Punta Cana** from February 14–22, 2026 for a multi-generational family trip (grandparents, baby, wife, sister). Summary **Pros** * Beautiful, well-maintained property (only ~200 rooms, feels intimate) * Very comfortable, well-kept Master Suite * Strong à la carte restaurants * Many warm, hardworking staff members * Nice beach and calm water **Cons** * Poorly managed check-in and guest services * Beach chair system encourages “seat saving” chaos * Buffet average with poor food labeling * Misleading airport transfer advertising * Overly complicated light switches in suites --- Overall, we had a positive stay and would consider returning — but only if guest services improve. The property itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed. Our Master Suite was spacious, comfortable, and very well maintained. The à la carte restaurants were consistently enjoyable and a highlight of the trip. The beach is lovely, with calm, swimmable water. While we had frustrations with front desk management, we want to recognize several staff members who truly stood out for their professionalism and kindness: Alvaro, Andres, Maximo, Socrates, and Carli. They were attentive, helpful, and service-oriented, and they made a meaningful difference in our experience. The resort is part of a larger complex, so accessing the beach requires a shuttle ride. Waits were typically under five minutes and manageable overall. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the check-in and room assignment process. We made multiple advance requests for two rooms close together due to traveling with grandparents and a baby. Upon arrival, we were assigned rooms in different buildings (5 and 8). After escalating the issue, we were moved the following day to the same building (though different floors), requiring us to repack and relocate with a baby. More concerning than the inconvenience was the dismissive response — our concerns were minimized rather than acknowledged. We overheard another guest facing a similar issue. Beach management was another weak point. The beach itself is beautiful, but seating is poorly organized. Guests rush early to claim chairs and umbrellas, then leave for breakfast, creating a competitive environment. Staff do not proactively provide additional seating when requested, and assistance appeared inconsistent. This is an area that could be managed much more effectively. The buffet was average, and unclear food labeling made dining more stressful for those with dietary restrictions. Also minor but frustrating: the lighting system in the suites is unnecessarily complicated. Finally, the website advertises “round-trip airport transfers included (PUJ Airport),” but this benefit is heavily conditioned. The way it is presented feels misleading and should be clarified. In short, the physical product is strong — but front desk operations and beach management need improvement. With better organization and more empathetic guest service leadership, this resort could easily move from good to excellent.
