With a privileged location on the shores of the Pacific, colonial architecture lives alongside remains of ancient civilizations in the charismatic capital of Peru. Located in the central part of the Pacific coast, the city is surrounded by the coastal desert. Its beautiful historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is the only capital on the continent with an ocean view.
The gateway to Peru
The Plaza de Armas is a magnificent place to start exploring Lima. It is surrounded by some of the most stunning buildings in the city, such as the cathedral, a magnificent example of colonial architecture, or the neo-colonial Municipal Palace. The city opens onto a magnificent bay that ends at La Punta. Its beaches are perfect for surfing. The popular district of Miraflores is home to the Parque del Amor, with mosaics reminiscent of Parc Güell in Barcelona. The Barranco district is an old fishing village and is the most bohemian part of the city. Huaca Pullcana is an archaeological area which was once home to a pre-Inca civilization. When it comes to dining, don’t always order ceviche. Peruvian cuisine is one of the best in the world!
