Overall, I think Melia was just alright. They say it’s a 5 star hotel, but feels very much like a 4 star hotel with a 5 star lounge and 2 star service. The rooms were good, I stayed on the 8th floor and it was nice and spacious, with a big bathroom and tub/shower separate. The breakfast was amazing and it’s the best part of my stay. I enjoyed the selection of local Catalan/Spanish dishes. The omelette bar was a big plus. I am a MeliaRewards Gold member, but honestly I felt like it was a gimmick. There were no distinct special treatment for Gold members nor was I recognised for my status. Also, it doesn’t seem like the front/desk or staff is aware of the program in the first place or its benefits. They wanted to charge me €20 per hour for late checkout even when the program states that Gold members may request for a 4pm checkout in city hotels, subject to availability. If they asked me to pay, then it was available but they just didn’t want to offer it. Overall, I’m probably going to stick to other rewards programs where I’m a Gold/Platinum member. I get an overall better experience, I just wanted to try out Melia because it is a Spanish brand and it was my first time in Spain.

While not in the hustle and bustle of central Barcelona, the location was ideal for me. It’s quiet and relaxing, yet only a short taxi or metro ride to La Rambla, Sagrada Familia, and other popular attractions. If you’re looking for a blend of comfort, luxury, and excellent service in Barcelona, Meliá Barcelona Sarrià is a fantastic choice. I would definitely stay here again when I return to the city.

The hotel staff was extremely professional and accommodating, we arrived suddenly after cancellation of flight and all the staff did their utmost to make the check-in process and indeed the entire stay a very pleasant one. We arrived after the mass cancellation that impacted airlines due to a computer glitch, but the experience was very smooth and extremely lovely. The night shift manager (Alex) went out of his way to remove all obstacles and his client orientation is exemplary and when all follow his example, it will be a beautiful world to experience. Eddy and family
