This Bulgarian city on the Black Sea coast has one of the highest concentrations of churches of any city in the world. The beautiful old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city of churches
With more than 3,000 years of history, this beautiful city still preserves many remains of a splendid past, a part of which can be seen in its excellent Archaeological Museum. There are more than 80 churches in Nesebar, the most famous of which is the Church of St. Stephen. If you’re planning to visit Bulgaria, we recommend you come to Nesebar and discover the magnificent frescoes that completely cover the columns and walls of the church. Another beautiful experience in Nesebar is to wake at dawn and see how the early-morning sun lights up the roofs of the city churches, before going down to the port to see the fishermen unloading their catch. You should also walk along the old city wall and enjoy the unusual architecture of its cobbled streets.
