Volcanic and exuberant, this Atlantic island is famous for its spectacular natural pools with crystal-clear waters. Its spectacular cliffs and beautiful scenery make it a great destination for hikers.
To the sky by cable car
A ride on one of the many cable cars is a good way to see Madeira from on high and start discovering the island. As there are many steep slopes on the island, there are also a lot of cable cars. Monte is the highest part of the island. To come down from Monte, we recommend you get a “carreiro” to take you down the hill in one of their big wicker and wood sledges. An experience you must not miss in Madeira! Pico Arieiro is one of the highest mountains and an ideal place for hiking. Cabo Girao, the highest cape in Europe at 589 metres, is a stunning viewpoint with a suspended glass platform.
