One of the first places to explore in Murcia is definitely the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga. The Plaza is home to all the key architectural attractions in the city. The cathedral was built upon an ancient Muslim mosque, combining styles ranging from Gothic to Baroque. The Casino is also a place you really should visit in Murcia. The building was designed as a meeting place for the city bourgeoisie. Its big attractions are the beautiful library and ladies’ dressing area, with a fresco on the ceiling which still has a hole which was used to spy on them! You shouldn’t leave without crossing the River Segura using the Old Bridge or sitting in the Plaza de las Flores accompanied by a beer and the most typical tapa in Murcia: “La Marinera”, a combination of a Russian salad with anchovies.
