This is the place where Christopher Columbus set sail to discover America. The famous explorer can be seen all over Huelva. In the heart of the city, in the Plaza de las Monjas, there is a monument to Columbus which is one of the most important monuments in the city. At the Wharf of the Caravels you can also learn more about his famous trip to America. The Cathedral of La Merced, the chapel in the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de la Cinta and Cortegana Castle are just a few of its other architectural treasures. If you’re visiting Huelva on holiday, we recommend you also get out of the city to visit other beautiful places in the province such as El Rocío, Doñana National Park or the beautiful fishing village at Punta Umbría.
