My wife and I only expected to stay in this lovely hotel for two nights, but after a cancelled flight we were there for four nights. The hotel is charming and extremely well-located but for us the absolute stand out was the service. The front desk staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. In particular Mara, went well and truly above and beyond in her assistance to us. After what could have been a very stressful time with changing flights and cancelling tours, we were made to feel that absolutely nothing was a problem! We highly recommend anyone to stay here - very comfortable, great food and a lovely, warm atmosphere. Congratulations!

The hotel is very well located in a nice quarter of Buenos Aires. Easily reachable by transport and close to a number of highlights like the Recoleta cemetery. The hotel has history and a certain Charme. However, the rooms need renovation, the air conditioning system is old and was blowing directly on the bed. We are very regular Melia guests and had a room with a Jacuzzi. Unfortunately, neither lights nor the stream was functioning. The room also had no window to the street. Loud noise every morning from the ground floor. The hotel only provided complimentary water for the first night. Paying 240 dollars per night one would expect water to be provided on a daily basis as it is the standard in many good hotels. We are close to gold level now but wonder whether it is worth to continue staying at Melia hotels if you don‘t get water for 50c or more than 2 coffee capsules. The breakfast was, despite live piano music, a big disappointment. Very limited choice for a 5 star hotel, bred not fresh, fruits very partly not fresh, no fresh juices etc. The fitness room is a joke. Allover we would not stay again in this hotel.

I’m honestly surprised that more reviews didn’t mention the smell in this hotel. The lobby and hallways were fine, but every guest room we entered had a noticeable body-odor or “armpit” smell. To their credit, the staff tried to help. They allowed us to change rooms and even upgraded us to a suite. Unfortunately, after visiting three additional rooms, the same smell was present in each one. At that point it seemed clear that the issue likely isn’t tied to a specific room but something broader, possibly related to the HVAC or ventilation system. After two nights the smell was still lingering, even with the AC running (which was quite old and loud). We couldn’t stand it and left for another hotel. There were also a few other issues: our bedding had small red stains on both the comforter and sheets, the in-room safe was broken, and much of the furniture felt very dated, and the walls are thin where i can hear the neighbours. We booked this hotel because we had an amazing experience at the Meliá in Thailand, but this stay was a real disappointment. For the price point, there are definitely more modern hotels that provide a better overall experience.

I always evaluate hotels after a stay with a simple personal scale: some I’d love to live in long-term, others I’d happily return to, and a few I’d never set foot in again. The Meliá Recoleta Plaza falls squarely in the middle category — I’d consider going back if the location suited my plans, but it’s far from memorable or exceptional. Location is one of its strongest points. It’s right in the heart of Recoleta, steps from Plaza Francia, the famous Recoleta Cemetery, high-end shopping at Patio Bullrich, and plenty of upscale cafés and restaurants. Everything feels elegant and walkable in that classic Buenos Aires sophisticated vibe. That said, personally, I much prefer staying in Palermo (for its energy, green spaces, and variety) or Puerto Madero (for modernity and views). Recoleta is beautiful and safe, but it can feel a bit more formal and touristy compared to those areas. Service was consistently good — polite, efficient, and helpful staff from check-in to housekeeping and concierge. No major complaints there; everything worked smoothly. The breakfast was solid: a generous buffet with fresh options, good coffee, pastries, fruits, and hot dishes. Nothing revolutionary, but reliable and enjoyable every morning — one of the better parts of the stay. The suite itself was spacious and comfortable, with classic elegant décor (think period-style furniture), a good bed, and all the basics you expect from a 5-star property. Clean, quiet, and functional. The bathroom deserves a mixed note: the shower enclosure in the suite is very generous in size and genuinely comfortable, with plenty of space to move around. Unfortunately, the shower itself is a major letdown — the water pressure is extremely weak, with almost no force, making it frustrating even to wash your hair properly. For a 5-star hotel in this price range, that’s a disappointing oversight that impacted the daily routine noticeably. Amenities are standard (rooftop pool, gym, spa mentioned, but I didn’t use them much). Overall, the hotel is correct, well-run, and delivers what it promises on paper. But there’s nothing that stands out or makes you think “wow, I need to come back here.” No exceptional wow factor in design, food beyond breakfast, views, or unique touches that elevate it above a solid, reliable option — and the weak shower pressure drags the experience down further. If you’re looking for a safe, central Recoleta base with good service and breakfast, it’s a reasonable choice. If you want something more vibrant, characterful, or memorable (especially if you lean toward Palermo’s buzz), there are better fits in Buenos Aires for similar or better value. Would I return? Probably yes, if Recoleta was the priority, the price was right, and I could live with the shower issue. But it’s not a hotel that leaves a lasting positive impression or makes me eager to book again.
