Playa del Bogatell is one of the best options if you want to go to the beach without needing to leave the city, where you will find a somewhat more relaxed atmosphere than in other areas of the Barcelona coast.
Located in the Sant Martí district, Playa del Bogatell is one of the most valued coastal stretches in the city, which forms part of the places to see in Barcelona. It stands out for its accessibility, its multi-purpose character and its excellent integration into the city's seafront.
The beach was renovated during the Olympic transformation of Barcelona, and today, it is one of the best-prepared areas of the coastline, with a beautiful promenade, sports facilities and all kinds of services.

What makes the Playa del Bogatell in Barcelona special is its balance between space and activity. This wide stretch of golden sand extends parallel to the promenade, creating an ideal setting for both resting and swimming, playing sports or going for a walk.
Although it is an urban beach, it tends to be much less crowded than others, and it has managed to maintain a very local atmosphere thanks to the constant use made of it by the residents themselves and sports enthusiasts.
The sandy area is approximately 700 metres long, with a quite considerable width that allows it to have multiple sports courts and areas for resting with sun loungers and parasols.
To organise your visit comfortably from anywhere in the city, it is useful to be clear about where Playa del Bogatell is, as well as its main access routes and some particularities of its surroundings.
The beach is located in the Sant Martí district, bordered by the Bogatell and Mar Bella breakwaters. It is a leisure and walking area where the renovated physiognomy of the Poblenou neighbourhood extends parallel almost to the very edge of the sea.

In the event that you do not know how to get to Playa del Bogatell, the reality is that you have several options, all of them very comfortable.
Access by public transport stands out for its convenience. When using line 4 of the Barcelona metro, the most recommended stations are Llacuna or Poblenou, which connect to the coastline via a pedestrian walkway of just over ten minutes.
By car, the journey from the centre of Barcelona, along the Ronda Litoral, will take about 15 minutes if there is not much traffic. Take the Vila Olímpica exit and follow the signs towards the promenade.
You can also go by bus, tram or even by bicycle taking advantage of the cycle lane that runs along the entire coast.
Parking at Playa del Bogatell can be complex during summer weekends, especially from midday onwards. In the immediate vicinity there are regulated blue and green zone spaces on the surrounding streets, as well as an open area for parking on the Avinguda del Litoral. It is recommended to arrive first thing in the morning to find a space more easily.
📍 To view the surrounding streets and plan your route by car or public transport, it is advisable to consult the Map of Playa del Bogatell in advance.
Opinions on Playa del Bogatell tend to coincide quite a bit, and what is clear is that it is one of the best-rated urban beaches in Barcelona, highlighting its spaciousness, the quality of its services, the cleanliness of the sand and, above all, the large number of volleyball nets available.
As for the downsides, some users comment that the water can lose some clarity on days with strong swell or that the prices of the beach bars in the area are somewhat high.

To fully enjoy your stay, it is advisable to go to Playa del Bogatell during the week, on working days, when the influx of bathers is lower. Likewise, extending the day until sunset allows you to walk along the promenade with more pleasant temperatures, enjoying the sunset and the calm left by the coastal environment at the end of the day.
It is also recommended not to leave without walking along the promenade after your swim. It is worth staying until the end of the afternoon because the atmosphere by the sea changes a lot when the heat drops.
The Sant Martí area and Poblenou offer many options beyond the beach, and my recommendation is that you take advantage of your visit to get to know the surroundings of the coast. Here are some ideas:
The Rambla del Poblenou, located just a few minutes' walk from the beach, is an iconic avenue full of terraces, artisanal ice cream parlours and a varied range of restaurants. The balance between its traditional neighbourhood atmosphere and its proximity to the sea reflects the authentic maritime identity of this district and the essence of the most coastal Barcelona.
A few minutes along the promenade is the Port Olímpic, a large marina that stands out for its gastronomic offer and its centres dedicated to water sports. It is an excellent place to walk, see the boats and watch the sunset.
Very close to the beach area, in the Parque del Poblenou you will find large grassy areas in the shade, paths for skating or cycling and pine forests that offer an oasis of tranquillity just a few metres from the sand.
