Tenerife has several beaches authorised for legal dog access. The options available by area are:
In the rest of the island's tourist beaches, pet access is prohibited under any circumstances. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in fines exceeding 150 €.
Each beach has its own personality: from family-friendly and easily accessible areas to remote coves that require a walk. Therefore, it is advisable to check the services and the difficulty of the terrain before visiting, especially if travelling with puppies or older dogs. It should be noted that all these beaches are free to access and are available permanently throughout the year.
It is the most accessible and family-friendly dog beach on the island. It has about 200 metres of fine black volcanic sand and stands out for its calm waters, ideal for swimming.
A very wide beach of dark sand and moderate waves. It is frequently visited by local surfers and offers plenty of space for your furry friends to run and have fun.
Located very close to the previous one, it is a cove of black sand and pebbles. Easy to access, it has excellent signage and is a perfect place to enjoy the sunsets.
A coastal stretch of volcanic rocks, boulders, and pebbles, practically flat, located at the end of the promenade of the residential area of Palm-Mar.

The distribution of these beaches requires travelling by car to make the most of them. Here you can check the approximate distances from the main tourist areas on the island.
The dog-friendly beaches of Tenerife can be visited all year round thanks to the mild climate that ranges between 18 and 26 °C. The best time of day is early in the morning (before 11:00am) or at sunset (from 5:00pm), when the sand does not burn the paws and there are fewer crowds. In summer (July and August) the temperature of the sand can exceed 50 °C at midday, so it is advisable to avoid those hours with small or light-skinned dogs.
| Season | Advantages | Things to keep in mind |
| Winter (November-March) | Temperatures of 18-22 °C, few crowds, water at 19-20 °C | Dogs more sensitive to the wind; bring a microfiber towel |
| Spring (April-June) | Ideal temperature 20-25 °C, longer days | Easter and busy bank holiday weekends |
| Summer (July-August) | Water at 23 °C, long days | Sand very hot at midday; go very early or at sunset |
| Autumn (September-October) | Water at 22-23 °C, moderate crowds | Possible calima (suspended dust): watch the dog's breathing |

Access to the dog-friendly beaches of Tenerife is regulated by the state Coastal Law, the Animal Welfare Law, and the ordinances of each town council. Failure to comply with these rules entails financial penalties that vary depending on the municipality. In summary:
Unlike tourist beaches, most dog-friendly beaches do not have services such as beach bars, showers, or sun lounger rentals. It is advisable to bring a complete kit to spend a fantastic day without any hiccups. This is the basic equipment:

Meliá operates the Pet Friendly programme, which admits dogs with no weight limit (up to two per room) and includes a bed, water bowl, free water, welcome gifts, and a welcome kit developed with the Spanish startup Patasbox (natural and ecological products). The hotel also offers optional services such as canine grooming, a dog walker, a vet, and a specific minibar for pets. Dogs can freely access outdoor areas and, on a leash, common areas (spa, indoor pool, and gym are excluded).
In Tenerife, the hotel adhering to the programme is the Gran Meliá Palacio de Isora (Guía de Isora, southwest). Its location is the most convenient for accessing the dog-friendly beaches in the south (El Callao/Las Bajas, El Confital/El Horno, and El Cabezo) in 20-35 minutes by car, and it combines well with days out along the cliffs of Los Gigantes, Mount Teide, and the west coast. It is the natural choice for a high-end trip without having to be separated from your friend.

Tenerife has officially designated dog-friendly beaches, spread across the south, the east, and the capital. None of these are typical tourist beaches with beach bars and sun loungers: they are coves or delimited areas, designed so your dog can run, swim, and enjoy the sea without disturbing other beachgoers. In this guide, you will find the six beaches with their exact location, services, current municipal regulations, and how to get there from each tourist area on the island.
If you are planning your entire trip with a pet, complement this guide with what to see and do in the south of Tenerife and our selection of dog-friendly hiking trails to alternate between days at the beach and in the mountains. All information is verified with municipal sources from the respective town councils.
