“We visited Gran Canaria for the first time, with an agency (TUI), flight from Gdańsk (Poland) - everything went smoothely. From the start staff was very friendly and helpful, check in process was really fast, we had an opportunity to upgrade our accomodation, but didn't take it, nobody was pushing us about it. Also, I'm learning spanish for about 6 months, and everyone was cheerful about it and wanted to help me practice! - that was very lovely!
The room - we had a Reserve Package (recommend it 100% if you don't travel with kids!), it was realatively big (could be a tiny bit bigger and maybe have bigger wardrobe), it was clean (except curtains - they could use some washing), modern, had a stunning view - ocean front, very cosy beds and nice pillows (not small and hard ones!). Only weird thing was room cleaning service 3 times a day? We've been to Greece, Cyprus and south of continental Spain and 1 room service was enough i think, but maybe thats how it is here :). A tiny deduction - maybe it's not hotels fault - but we've had a cockroach :((((( immediately called reception and they dealt with it, but it kinda grossed us out, and we were a bit stressed that they would come back. We've read that it is a common problem in south of Gran Canaria, but still you would expect to not have this kind of insects in 5* resort.
Food - variety of local and european foods, everything was fresh and neatly exposed, a lot of fish, meat (maybe a bit more chicken would be good in main dining hall, not in the form of chicken nuggets for kids?), great tasting vegetables and fruits, always a big selection of local jamóns, chorizos and cheese. I highly recommend the Resevre breakfast area and try all of the positions - they all were very tasty, and very friendly staff! Also a la carte in the evenings - we've been to La Peseta (local canarian cuisine) and Kanna (BBQ& mediterrainian) - both were exquisite, delicious with professional service. Desserts were the best we've ever had in all of our all inc trips! Tiny minuses - we think that in the main dining hall there could be more waiters , they couldn't keep up with drinks and cleaining tables properly (sometimes they were sticky and a bit dirty, also they should pay more attention to the floors - I understand that this should be parents responsibilty to look after the kids dropping every thing, but the floor in my opinion was always dirty).
Resting areas - we've only been to the Reserve pool area and it was such a relaxing time, quite, peaceful, nice place to just chill out, read a book or sleep. We would like to especially thank one lady - her name was Maivelan (or something like that) - she was super nice, always a big sweet smile on her face. I love the fact that you can make your own drink and decide how much alcohole you want in it,we are not heavy drinkers, but it was a nice touch, no standing in lines. Also water, juice, all kinds of refrescos are within reach and you can drink as much as you want. Snacks, sweets, chips are also here so you can bite something in between main meals. It gets very hot during the day, but you can always refresh yourself in the pool or inside area with comfortable chairs and sofas with AC.
The beach has a nice soft sand, but its almost black and goes everywhere, also it gets crowded during weekends and afternoons. Ocean is nice, but if you are not a great swimmer, I'd advise you to be careful, the stream and waves are very strong! Also the hotel is right next to looooong promenade along the beach, very nice for an evening walk after supper :)
Last thing - if you consider renting the car, nearby rental (Amurga) is very nice! Ladies are helpful, 70 euros for a whole day with insurance is a reasonable price, car was clean, everything was great. Gran Canaria is beautiful place, small, but preacious, great nature, nice roads, a lot of fun activities - redommend Arehucas destillery and Pico de Nieve, also the Dunes (but be careful, nearby LGBT beach = random naked man, on the same pathwalk as children and elders, kinda disgusting to be honest :p).”
