Alicante experiences Christmas amidst city centre streets, craft stalls, and the atmosphere of December shopping. Here, the markets have a Mediterranean flair and can easily be combined with a stroll through the centre, a stop for a drink, or a walk by the sea.
Among the Christmas markets in Alicante, the Paseo de Federico Soto brings together two of the main highlights for this time of year: the Christmas Craft Market and the traditional Cascaruja and Porrate Market. A great way to discover them is to include them in a walk around the city, without needing to separate your shopping from the rest of your plans.
As in other European cities, the markets are part of that atmosphere that invites you to go for a walk when December arrives. You can discover other suggestions in our guide to Christmas markets in Europe.

The main Christmas markets in Alicante start in December, although each has its own schedule. The first to open will be the Christmas Craft Market, which will be set up from 1 December 2026 to 6 January 2027 and will feature 26 stalls.
The Cascaruja and Porrate Christmas Market will arrive a few days later and will concentrate its activity between 20 and 24 December. It is a smaller event linked to shopping and traditional products for this time of year.
If you want to catch both markets, the days leading up to Christmas Eve are the best for enjoying a wider variety of stalls on the Paseo de Federico Soto.
The two markets have very different closing dates. The Cascaruja and Porrate market ends on 24 December, linked to shopping in the days leading up to Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Craft Market, on the other hand, continues until 6 January 2027. This allows you to visit its stalls during New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and the days leading up to Three Kings' Day.
So, although the most traditional Christmas is concentrated in December, Alicante maintains an active craft offering for much of the holiday season, as also happens in other Christmas markets in Spain.

The two main markets in Alicante are located on the same promenade, but each has its own charm. In one you will find handcrafted pieces and small gifts to take home; in the other, products and customs that are part of the city's most traditional Christmas.

Among its stalls, it is easy to find that type of gift that you choose without having it too clear and that, suddenly, seems made for someone specific. The market brings together approximately 26 stalls with handcrafted pieces and unique objects, from ceramics and wood to leather, glass, costume jewellery, prints, and other small details.
The Paseo de Federico Soto makes it easy to incorporate into a day out in the centre of Alicante. Furthermore, as it remains open until Three Kings' Day, it can be visited both at the beginning of December and during the Christmas holidays.

Here, Christmas has a more traditional flavour. The market brings together stalls selling nuts, sweets, Christmas products, and small items typical of this time of year, as well as zambombas and tambourines.
Its history is linked to Christmas shopping in Alicante and those visits to the market that are part of the preparations for Christmas Eve. It is a small stop, but with its own personality, especially interesting for discovering a local custom while walking through the centre.

One of the things that makes Alicante at Christmas different is that your walk can end in front of the Mediterranean. After visiting the stalls on the Paseo de Federico Soto, you can continue towards the Explanada, head to the port, or go down to Postiguet beach.
It is also a great time to take a break. Having something hot, a Christmas sweet, or simply sitting for a while to watch the bustle of the streets can be part of the plan, especially if you are travelling with children.
And when evening falls, the lights in the centre, the walk by the sea, and the atmosphere of Christmas shopping create a very Alicante combination: a Christmas that is less indoor-focused and more connected to the city and its Mediterranean landscape.

The Christmas markets are concentrated on the Paseo de Federico Soto, but the city offers several options for accommodation to enjoy your getaway in your own way. You can sleep by the sea, near the centre to get around on foot, or choose a quieter setting and combine your visit to Alicante with other plans.

The distances are approximate, but the beauty of Alicante is that many of these plans can be linked on foot. A morning walk through the centre, a visit to the market, and, when evening falls, the sea as a backdrop: a great plan to enjoy Christmas in a relaxed way.
