Christmas markets in Barcelona begin at the end of November and continue throughout the month of December, although the dates vary depending on each fair.
The Fira de Santa Llúcia and the Fira de Nadal de la Sagrada Família are usually among the first to open, although their dates for 2026 are still pending confirmation. On the other hand, the Fira de Consum Responsable is already scheduled to be held from 18 to 30 December 2026 in Plaça de Catalunya.
Thus, the Barcelona Christmas calendar adds proposals as December progresses, from the most traditional markets to fairs that extend their activity during the holidays.
Christmas markets in Barcelona have quite different calendars. While some end before Christmas Eve, others maintain their stalls and activities during the final days of the year and until Three Kings' Day.
The Fira de Santa Llúcia usually closes on 23 December, while the Fira de Nadal de la Sagrada Família also usually ends before Christmas. For both, the dates for 2026-2027 are still pending confirmation.
If you visit Barcelona after Christmas, you will still find options such as the Fira de Consum Responsable, scheduled until 30 December 2026, or the Fira de Sant Tomàs i Reis de la Gran Via, which traditionally extends until 6 January.

There are markets that are part of a city's Christmas almost as much as its own lights. The Fira de Santa Llúcia is one of them. Its first documented references date back to 1786 and every year it occupies the Avinguda de la Catedral, right in front of one of the great symbols of Barcelona.
Its more than 200 stalls revolve especially around Christmas traditions: nativity scenes, figures, moss, trees, decorations for the home and other elements typical of this time of year. There are also more than 30 spaces dedicated to gifts and handicrafts, with proposals for ceramics, jewellery, costume jewellery, leather and textile accessories.
But a good part of its charm is outside the stalls themselves. You can take advantage of the visit to walk through the Barri Gòtic, go to the Plaça de Sant Jaume or continue to the streets of the historic centre. It is one of those stops that help you understand how Christmas is experienced in Barcelona.

Christmas has a setting here that is hard to beat: the Sagrada Família as a backdrop. This fair was born in the sixties and is the Christmas market with the greatest tradition in the Eixample district.
In its stalls you can find Christmas trees and plants, figures for the nativity scene, decorations, gifts and artisanal food products. The last confirmed edition brought together 78 stalls, distributed among different sectors according to the type of product.
It is a plan that is especially easy to fit into a tourist visit: you can see the basilica, walk around the square and end up among the Christmas stalls without having to cross the city. And if you go with children, the presence of sweets and churrerías adds a small incentive.

As Three Kings' night approaches, the pace of shopping changes. The Fira de Sant Tomàs i Reis de la Gran Via is especially linked to those last-minute gifts and has become one of the traditional events in Barcelona during the final days of Christmas.
The fair occupies different sections of the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and brings together stalls selling handicrafts, toys, decorations, clothing, ceramics, sweets and gifts. In its 2025-2026 edition, it also incorporated play areas for the little ones.
It is an especially interesting option if you are travelling to Barcelona after Christmas Eve and want to continue finding a Christmas atmosphere when some of the more traditional fairs have already closed. Furthermore, its duration until Three Kings' Day allows you to leave some shopping for the last minute.

There is something special about enjoying the Christmas lights with the sea in the background. Nadal al Port brings the celebrations to the Port Vell and proposes a different kind of Christmas, with a market, gastronomy, family activities and a programme related to the maritime environment.
The seventh edition, held during the 2025-2026 season, grew to reach 24,000 m² and extended to the Drassanes pier. The programme included the Fira de Nadal del Moll de la Fusta, gastronomic proposals, children's activities, shows and different initiatives linked to the port.
It is an interesting alternative to change the scenery after visiting the markets in the city centre. You can head to the Port Vell, continue towards the Rambla de Mar or combine the walk with a visit to Barceloneta and the Museu Marítim.

Not all Christmas shopping has to revolve around the usual gifts. In Plaça de Catalunya, the Fira de Consum Responsable proposes an alternative based on local, ethical and sustainable consumption.
The 2026 edition is scheduled from 18 to 30 December and will feature stalls and an activities tent. Among the proposals that can be found at this fair are handicrafts, textile accessories, culture, books, food, cosmetics and toys.
Its location also plays in its favour. You can go there after walking along Portal de l'Àngel or Passeig de Gràcia, continue towards the Ramblas or take advantage of the visit to discover other corners of the city centre.
🗓️ Dates: 18 – 30 December 2026. Closed on 25 and 26 December.
📍 Location: Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona.

Barcelona has the advantage that many of its markets can be combined with visits to some of the most well-known places in the city. There is no need to try to see them all in one day: spreading them out by area allows you to enjoy the walk more and, in the process, discover different neighbourhoods.
The key is not to turn the visit into a race from one market to another. At Christmas, you also feel like stopping for something hot, looking at shop windows, enjoying the lights and leaving a little room for improvisation.
