The lights are starting to go on, the streets are filling up with Christmas shop windows and the first stalls are appearing along the promenades in the centre of Málaga. In December, going out to buy a gift, looking for a decoration for the home or simply going for a stroll can become one of those plans that signal that Christmas is already here.
Among the Christmas markets in Málaga, there are two places that concentrate much of that atmosphere: the Paseo del Parque, with its stalls and its tradition linked to nativity scenes, decorations and gifts, and Muelle Uno, where Christmas is enjoyed by the port and the Mediterranean. Each one has its own personality and allows you to discover a different side of these holidays.
Markets are part of that very special way of experiencing December that we also find in many European cities. If you feel like continuing to travel from stall to stall, you can discover other proposals in our guide to Christmas markets in Europe.

The Christmas season begins to be felt in Málaga from the end of November. The markets usually join that atmosphere shortly after, although each space has its own calendar.
For 2026, the specific dates for the main markets are still pending confirmation. As a reference, the Paseo del Parque market has traditionally started at the end of November or the beginning of December, while Muelle Uno also usually launches its Christmas offering during those weeks.
The lighting in the centre will mark one of the first moments of the Málaga Christmas: the illumination of Calle Larios and Plaza de la Constitución is scheduled from 27 November 2026.
In Málaga, Christmas extends beyond Christmas Eve. The main markets usually remain open during the holidays and run until the first days of January, coinciding with the Three Kings shopping and the last Christmas strolls.
The exact 2026-2027 calendar is still pending publication. In previous years, the Paseo del Parque market has continued until after New Year's and Muelle Uno has also maintained its Christmas atmosphere during the first days of January.
So December is a safe bet for finding both markets in operation, while for a getaway around Three Kings, it is advisable to check the updated dates.

Each of these markets has a different way of accompanying Christmas in the city. On the Paseo del Parque, the stalls invite you to stop among nativity scenes, decorations and small gifts, while Muelle Uno takes Christmas shopping to the port, with the sea and the lights as part of the walk.
They are two environments that allow you to enjoy Málaga in December from different perspectives: one more linked to tradition and the other to the atmosphere of the port, but both perfect for adding a special stop to any Christmas tour of the city.

There are stalls that are part of the Christmas memories of a city. The one on the Paseo del Parque is one of them: its stalls appear among trees and palm trees and bring together figures for the nativity scene, decorations, gifts, books, sweets and other details typical of these dates. In recent editions, it has had around a hundred stalls.
Its location allows you to easily link the market with the historic centre, the Alameda Principal and the port. It is a good place to look for that small figure missing from the nativity scene, find a gift or simply let yourself be carried away by the atmosphere while you walk.

Here, Christmas changes its setting and overlooks the Mediterranean. At Muelle Uno, the stalls blend with the port promenade and the lights, creating a different atmosphere to that of the historic centre.
The offering brings together handicrafts, Christmas decorations, toys, accessories, gifts and options for a bite to eat. In recent Christmases, it has also incorporated family activities, from workshops and storytelling to visits from Father Christmas, so it is easy to turn the visit into a plan for the whole family.

In Málaga, Christmas invites you to walk. You can start the afternoon on the Paseo del Parque, head towards the centre to see the lights on Calle Larios and then continue towards the port as the sun sets.
If you are travelling with children, there is always time for an unplanned stop: a hot chocolate accompanied by some churros or simply sitting for a while to watch the lights turn on. It is those little breaks that often end up being what children remember most about the trip.
And to end the day, the rooftop of ME Málaga is a good way to trade the hustle and bustle of the streets for a while and enjoy the views of the city. You can also stay a little longer and get into the rhythm of the DJ sessions while Málaga lights up around you, a different way to close a Christmas afternoon among lights, shopping and music.
The two main markets are located in the area of the centre and the port, so staying nearby makes it easy to combine them with other walks around Málaga.

The distances are approximate, but one of the advantages of staying in this area is being able to turn the walk into part of the plan. A while among the stalls, the lights of the centre at sunset, a stop for a drink and the port in the background can end up forming one of those Christmas afternoons that you want to remember.
