Spectacular architecture, modern bars and traditional taverns are all popular attractions in the old town. A combination that makes the city ideal for an evening of tapas or sampling the excellent Bierzo wine.
Timeless architecture and sublime cuisine
León Cathedral should be the first stop on a walking tour through the beautiful historic heart of León. A Gothic-style building with one of the most important collections of medieval stained glass in the world. Just a few metres from the cathedral is the Real Colegiata de San Isidro. This is home to the pantheon of the kings where the remains of many Spanish monarchs rest beneath beautiful murals. The Casa Botines is one of the few buildings designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí outside of Catalonia, and today houses a museum. The old Palace of the Guzmanes is home to headquarters of the Provincial Council. You should not leave the popular district of Húmedo without trying the famous tapas of cured beef or blood sausage.
