Can you imagine wandering through a Christmas market surrounded by wooden stalls, illuminated trees and the aroma of cinnamon and freshly made sweets? Or discovering a historic square as evening falls and the first lights begin to twinkle? In Germany, these scenes are part of a tradition that brings families, friends and travellers together every year around the Advent markets.
From Nuremberg to Berlin, via Munich, Cologne or Hamburg, every city has its own way of celebrating this time of year. There are large markets full of stalls, and others that are smaller and more artisanal, but they all share that atmosphere that invites you to stroll, browse the stalls and find a special souvenir to take home.
Christmas markets in Germany are also one of the main highlights of routes through Christmas markets in Europe, and a beautiful way to discover the country when winter arrives.
