The historic centre is home to one of the best preserved Jewish quarters in Europe. Nobody can fail to admire the beauty of this ancient medieval city, surrounded by high walls and presided over by an amazing cathedral.

The colourful houses on the River Onyar are probably the most iconic and most photographed image of the city. The panoramic view of the houses from the Peixateries Velles iron bridge, the work of the prestigious engineer Gustave Eiffel, is something you must not miss if you visit Girona. The stunning cathedral is also visible from practically everywhere in the city. But you shouldn’t just admire it from afar. Its 90 Baroque-style steps are well worth the effort! Nearby is Sant Pere Galligans Monastery, an old Benedictine abbey with a beautiful Romanesque cloister. We also recommend walking the path that runs alongside the old medieval walls or discovering the Roman ruins at the Força Vella fortress.
