Mixed Experience at Paradisus Palma Real As a repeat guest who’s visited this property multiple times, I was excited for another relaxing getaway. Sadly, this trip left me questioning whether I’ll return. The Good The resort remains as stunning as ever, with lush, tropical grounds perfect for morning walks or lounging by the pools. The new coffee bar was a highlight, where an espresso martini paired with a violinist playing pop covers made for an enjoyable evening. The Disappointing Check-In & Room Issues Despite being a loyal guest and noting both my birthday (the day before arrival) and my daughter’s birthday (shortly after departure), there was no acknowledgment. I requested a room closer to the beach but was placed far away, as most prime rooms seemed reserved for Circle members. On arrival, the bed was made with damp, incorrectly placed sheets. The thermostat wouldn’t cool below 70°F, the safe was broken and never fixed despite requests for have resolved, and snacks in the room were sparingly replenished. Dining & Shortages Restaurant reservation system was awful. Upon check-in, we found the system closed, and by the next morning, all options we were told were fully booked, leaving only one late-night slot the day before our departure. While a manager eventually helped, the process was unnecessarily stressful, and the restaurants often appeared half-empty despite the supposed lack of availability. The food was inconsistent. Mascalzone (Italian) and Blue Agave (Mexican) offered the best meals with attentive service, but others fell short. Tokimeku (Hibachi) was underwhelming, with rubbery chicken and tough steak, and the buffet often had unappetizing options. Worse, staple items like spinach, tomatoes, and grilled chicken breast were at times unavailable. Shortages extended to basic beverages: I couldn’t get a Dirty Monkey drink because bananas and chocolate syrup were unavailable throughout my stay, same with a Mochachino at the coffee bar (hey, I love chocolate - don't judge ;) ). These recurring issues, coupled with the already limited dining options, significantly detracted from the experience. Final Thoughts While Circle members and upgraded guests enjoy a better experience, regular guests are treated as an afterthought. The inconsistent service, dining chaos, and supply shortages made it difficult to fully relax. The property itself is gorgeous, and I’ve had wonderful experiences here in the past. However, this visit has me considering other options for my next trip to Punta Cana. Melia, please take action—this beautiful resort deserves better.
