The scent of freshly made sweets, spices and mulled wine begins to fill the streets of Frankfurt city centre as Christmas approaches. Lights reflect in the squares, wooden stalls invite you to browse and, almost without realising, a simple stroll can end up among gifts, decorations and a local speciality to try.
Christmas in Frankfurt is enjoyed this way, exploring the city and letting each square reveal a different atmosphere. The Christmas markets in Frankfurt are spread across different points in the centre, from Römerberg to Roßmarkt and Mainkai, creating a route that combines tradition, gastronomy and the atmosphere of the illuminated streets. An essential stop among the Christmas markets in Europe.

The main Christmas market in Frankfurt will begin on 23 November 2026. From that day, stalls will be active across Römerberg, Paulsplatz, Mainkai, Hauptwache, Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz and Roßmarkt.
The season also kicks off with a tradition closely linked to the city: the Turmbläser, groups of musicians who perform Christmas carols from the gallery of the Alte Nikolaikirche on certain Wednesdays and Saturdays during the market.
Frankfurt thus concentrates its major programme during the weeks of Advent, as is also the case in other Christmas markets in Germany. The city also has small neighbourhood markets, including the Finnish and Swedish markets, which hold their events on specific dates in December.
The Frankfurter Weihnachtsmarkt will end on 22 December 2026. This applies to the large city centre route and its main areas, so the stalls will not remain open during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Three Kings' Day.
General opening hours will be from 10:00 to 21:00 Monday to Saturday and from 11:00 to 21:00 on Sundays. If you want to experience the main market in all its glory, the weeks leading up to Christmas are the time when all its areas coincide.
The small neighbourhood markets have their own schedules, so their dates may be different.

One of the peculiarities of Frankfurt is that several of its offerings are part of the same large Christmas market. Even so, each area has a different atmosphere and it is worth getting to know them separately.

Surrounded by the facades of the historic centre and presided over by a large Christmas tree, Römerberg concentrates one of the most recognisable images of Christmas in Frankfurt. The stalls occupy the square and continue towards other points in the centre.
Among the stalls you will find crafts, decorations, gifts and gastronomic specialities. Some have a distinct local flavour, such as Bethmännchen, small marzipan sweets decorated with almonds, hot Apfelwein and the traditional Quetschemännchen, figures made with dried plums and nuts.
Music is also part of the atmosphere. During the season, the Turmbläser perform Christmas carols from the Alte Nikolaikirche, a particularly beautiful scene when the lights begin to turn on.
🗓️ Dates: from 23 November to 22 December 2026.
📍 Location: Römerberg, Frankfurt am Main.
In Roßmarkt, Christmas takes on a more urban feel. The stalls appear surrounded by the buildings of the centre and, in the distance, by the skyline of Frankfurt's skyscrapers. A large Christmas pyramid and a Ferris wheel complete this market space.
It is an easy stop to incorporate into your route because it connects the Zeil shopping area with Hauptwache and, from there, with Paulsplatz and Römerberg. You can start your visit here and then continue towards the historic centre, discovering how the atmosphere changes as you move along.
🗓️ Dates: from 23 November to 22 December 2026.
📍 Location: Roßmarkt, Frankfurt am Main.

Pink is the star of this small Christmas market, which transforms Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz into a space full of colour every year. Rosa Weihnacht is especially linked to Frankfurt's LGBTIQ+ community, although it welcomes all types of visitors, and combines craft stalls with gastronomic offerings.
The atmosphere here is more intimate than in Römerberg. Among the stalls you will find hot drinks, homemade soups and other products to make a stop during your walk. Furthermore, its location allows you to easily continue towards Hauptwache, Paulsplatz and Römerberg.
🗓️ Dates: from 23 November to 22 December 2026.
📍 Location: Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, Frankfurt am Main.
Next to the Main river, in Mainkai, you will find the Kinder-Weihnachtsmarkt, designed especially for those travelling as a family. It is part of the main Christmas market, but focuses on activities aimed at children.
The programme includes creative proposals, participatory activities and children's attractions, as well as food stalls. Its location makes it easy to combine with Römerberg and then continue your walk along the river.
It is an especially interesting stop if you are travelling with children and want them to also have their own space within the Christmas route.
🗓️ Dates: from 23 November to 22 December 2026.

The natural environment is one of the great attractions of the Sachsenhäuser Weihnachtsmarkt. The stalls are integrated among the trees and create a calmer and more intimate atmosphere than the markets in the centre of Frankfurt.
The offering brings together craft products and gastronomic specialities, but here the landscape is also part of the experience. It is a good way to discover another side of the city, walk around the Goetheturm and visit a market with a different atmosphere to that of the large squares in the centre.
🗓️ Dates: pending confirmation for 2026.
📍 Location: surroundings of Goetheturm, Sachsenhausen, Frankfurt am Main.
Frankfurt also has a small window into Christmas in Northern Europe. The Finnish market, in Dornbusch, and the Swedish market, in Preungesheim, bring together products, gastronomy and traditions from their respective countries for a few days.
These are small markets with a shorter duration than the one in the centre, but that is precisely part of their charm. They allow you to discover other Christmas customs and try specialities that are not usually found in large German markets.
🗓️ Dates: pending confirmation for 2026.
📍 Location: Dornbusch —Finnish market— and Preungesheim —Swedish market—, Frankfurt am Main.

The large Christmas market is concentrated in the centre and its main areas can be explored on foot. To get to locations such as Sachsenhausen or the Finnish and Swedish markets, it will be more comfortable to use public transport.
