Its major textile industry has made it the mainstay of the German textile market. In addition to the silk and velvet, this medieval city is also home to a great deal of history, architecture and delicious cuisine.
A place with a lot of history
On the banks of the River Rhine, Krefeld is home to a small medieval village named Linn, the location of the oldest castle in the Lower Rhine. The Haus Lange and Haus Esters buildings house the Museum of Contemporary Art. The German Textile Museum has another type of art: one of the largest collections of fabrics in the world. Other things to do in Krefeld include strolling through the numerous parks that line the river, visiting the botanical garden or trying some water sports on the beautiful Elfrather See lake. All this without forgetting to try the local craft beers!
