What I like most about the Los Gigantes Cliffs is the combination of their titanic scale and their origin, which is intimately linked to fire. These basalt stone walls reach over 600 metres in height, acting as a natural border for the Teno Rural Park, one of the oldest and wildest lungs of Tenerife.
One of the things that impresses me most is the chromatic contrast between the deep black of the volcanic rock and the electric blue of the Atlantic Ocean, often crowned by the white foam of the waves. It is breathtaking.
But their value is not just aesthetic; it is historical. The ancient Guanches, the island's aboriginal inhabitants, christened these masses “The Wall of Hell”. For them, the world ended here, at an impassable barrier that inspired almost sacred respect.
