During the weeks of Advent, Prague's historic squares recover one of their oldest functions: becoming places for meeting and trade. Stalls appear next to Gothic churches, Baroque buildings and grand avenues, with Czech handicrafts, decorations, gift products and winter gastronomy. The Christmas markets in Prague are especially concentrated between the end of November and the beginning of January, although some begin earlier.
The Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square host the longest-running celebrations and remain open until Epiphany. However, moving away from this axis allows you to find different proposals. Náměstí Míru brings Advent to the Vinohrady neighbourhood, Náměstí Republiky maintains a traditional format in the heart of the city centre and markets such as MINT Market focus on design and small creators.
For Christmas 2026, the dates for several of the main markets in the Czech capital have already been published. The calendar begins on 20 November at Náměstí Míru and runs until 6 January 2027 in the two large squares in the centre.

Christmas in Prague is closely linked to Advent, the weeks leading up to the holidays, when the streets are decorated, markets begin and the traditions typical of these dates gain presence in the life of the city. One of the most characteristic celebrations arrives on 5 December, St. Nicholas Eve, when Mikuláš goes out traditionally accompanied by an angel and a devil.
Gastronomy also helps to recognise these weeks. In the markets, you will find svařák, spiced mulled wine; medovina, a honey drink that can be served hot; roast ham and different sweets. It is also common to find trdelník, a rolled dough that is cooked around a cylinder. VisitCzechia highlights precisely these flavours among the usual ones in the capital's markets.
The celebrations continue after 24 December, with Christmas, New Year and Epiphany. This calendar helps to understand why some of the main Christmas markets in Prague remain open during the first days of January.
The main Christmas markets in Prague begin to open during the second half of November. Among the traditional markets in this selection, the first will be Náměstí Míru, which will begin on 20 November 2026 in front of the Church of St. Ludmila, in Vinohrady.
The Náměstí Republiky market will open on 25 November and the Tylovo náměstí market on the 26th. Two days later, on 28 November, the two major events in the centre will begin: the Old Town Square market and the Wenceslas Square market. That same weekend, MINT Market Praha Christmas will take place in Holešovice, on the 28th and 29th.
The calendar is, therefore, staggered. If you visit Prague from the last weekend of November, all the traditional markets in this selection with confirmed dates will already be in operation.
For this selection, we have taken into account the atmosphere, the urban setting, the variety of stalls, the craftsmanship, the gastronomy, the tradition and what makes each market different. The large markets in the centre are the easiest to include in a first visit, while Náměstí Míru, Tylovo náměstí, MINT Market or Karlín allow you to get to know other areas and proposals in the city.

Staroměstské náměstí hosts the main Christmas celebration in Prague and houses the largest and most popular market in the city. Dozens of stalls occupy the square accompanied by a large Christmas tree that comes from somewhere in the Czech Republic every year.
The offer allows you to discover products and flavours linked to these dates. There are handmade decorations and other Czech items alongside gastronomic stalls with candied almonds, sausages and cold meats. The programme also incorporates carols and displays of traditional craftsmanship.
The setting explains much of its appeal. The Old Town Hall, the Church of Our Lady of Týn and the Church of St. Nicholas surround a square that has been one of the centres of urban life in Prague for centuries.
🗓️ Dates: 28 November 2026 – 6 January 2027.
📍 Location: Staroměstské náměstí, 110 00 Staré Město, Praha 1.
Wenceslas Square houses the other large Christmas market in the centre. The stalls occupy the lower part of Václavské náměstí and bring together gifts made in Czech workshops, handicrafts and gastronomic proposals. During the season they are complemented by musical performances, choirs and family programming.
Its location allows it to be easily integrated into an urban route. The square is one of the main commercial axes of Nové Město and is presided over at its top by the National Museum. From here you can continue walking towards other markets in the centre.
Together with the Old Town Square, it is especially interesting for those travelling after Christmas Eve. Both markets continue during Christmas and New Year and remain open until Epiphany.
🗓️ Dates: 28 November 2026 – 6 January 2027.
📍 Location: Václavské náměstí, 110 00 Nové Město, Praha 1.
The Náměstí Míru market will be one of the first to inaugurate the Prague Advent season in 2026. Its stalls are set up in front of the neo-Gothic Church of St. Ludmila, whose two towers dominate the square, in the Vinohrady neighbourhood.
Its location provides a different context to that of the large squares of Staré Město. For those staying several days in Prague, going to Náměstí Míru allows you to combine the monumental markets of the centre with a more residential environment.
In addition, it is an especially practical option for those travelling before the last weekend of November: when the large markets of the Old Town and Wenceslas have not yet begun, the Christmas season will already be underway here.
🗓️ Dates: 20 November – 24 December 2026.
📍 Location: Náměstí Míru, 120 00 Vinohrady, Praha 2.
Náměstí Republiky hosts another of the traditional markets in the centre. Its stalls are set up very close to two architectural references of Prague: the Municipal House and the Powder Tower. The square also occupies a transition point between the Old Town and the New Town.
The visit allows you to combine Christmas shopping with some of the flavours typical of these dates, from svařák (traditional Czech spiced mulled wine) to hot specialities. Its location makes it easy to incorporate into any tour of the centre: from Náměstí Republiky you can continue on foot towards Staré Město or towards Wenceslas Square.
Unlike the two large markets in the centre, here the stalls do not continue after Christmas and close on 24 December.
🗓️ Dates: 25 November – 24 December 2026.
📍 Location: Náměstí Republiky, 110 00 Nové Město, Praha 1.

MINT Market approaches Christmas shopping from a different perspective. Instead of occupying a monumental square, it is held in the Holešovice market and brings together proposals linked to design and small creators.
It is an alternative for those looking for gifts away from the more traditional format of the Advent markets and, at the same time, an opportunity to include Holešovice in the itinerary and discover an area different from Staré Město and Nové Město.
Its main peculiarity is the calendar. Unlike the large markets that remain open for several weeks, the Christmas edition of MINT Market is concentrated on a single weekend at the end of November.
🗓️ Dates: 28-29 November 2026.
📍 Location: Holešovická tržnice, Bubenské nábřeží 306/13, 170 00 Holešovice, Prague.
Christmas Lemarket is another alternative for those looking for gifts linked to contemporary design. Its Christmas edition brings together proposals from creators and small firms for a few days, so its approach is far from the traditional market of stalls installed throughout Advent.
In 2026 it will be held for three days at the Galerie Mánes, next to the Vltava and near the Dancing House. Its short duration forces you to make the travel dates coincide, but precisely because of its format it can complement the large historical markets for those who want to reserve part of the trip for design shopping. The organiser itself currently confirms both the dates and Galerie Mánes as the venue for the 2026 Christmas edition.
🗓️ Dates: 11-13 December 2026.
📍 Location: Galerie Mánes, Masarykovo nábřeží 250/1, 110 00 Nové Město, Prague.
Tylovo náměstí adds a smaller-scale alternative to the large markets in the centre. The square is located in Nové Město, near I. P. Pavlova and a short distance from Náměstí Míru, so both markets can be combined during the same route.
Its format is interesting for those who want to alternate the large celebrations of Staré Město and Wenceslas Square with a smaller market. It also expands the options for those visiting the city during the last days of November, as it opens before the two large markets in the centre.
The 2026 calendar is officially confirmed and practically coincides with the Advent period: it begins on 26 November and ends on Christmas Eve.
🗓️ Dates: 26 November – 24 December 2026.
📍 Location: Tylovo náměstí, Nové Město, Praha 2.
Karlín will have its own Christmas event on 6 December 2026. It is a single-day market, so its approach is different from the large fairs that remain open for several weeks.
Its main interest for the traveller is the surroundings. Karlínské náměstí is one of the central squares of the Karlín neighbourhood and is presided over by the Church of St. Cyril and St. Methodius. Visiting the market thus allows you to leave the most touristy axis of the Old Town for a few hours.
The information published by Prague City Tourism confirms the celebration, date and time of the 2026 edition.
🗓️ Dates: 6 December 2026, from 12:00 to 20:00.
📍 Location: Karlínské náměstí, 180 00 Karlín, Praha 8.
Visiting the Christmas markets in Prague also allows you to try some of the usual flavours of the Czech winter. Among the stalls you will find svařák, the traditional spiced mulled wine; medovina, a drink made with honey that can be served hot; roast ham, sausages, cured meats and candied almonds. For something sweet, trdelník, a rolled dough cooked around a cylinder, is one of the most common options in the markets in the centre.
Shopping goes beyond tourist souvenirs. Depending on the market, it is possible to find handmade Christmas decorations, wooden pieces, ceramics, glass products, candles, decorations and other examples of Czech craftsmanship. Markets such as MINT Market and Christmas Lemarket expand the offer with jewellery, fashion, accessories and design objects from small creators. If you are looking for a souvenir of Christmas in Prague, the more traditional markets are a good option for handicrafts, while the design ones allow you to find more contemporary gifts.

The Christmas markets in Prague do not have a common closing date. Náměstí Míru, Náměstí Republiky and Tylovo náměstí end on 24 December 2026, so they concentrate their activity in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
The situation changes in the two large squares in the centre. Both the Staroměstské náměstí market, in the Old Town Square, and the Václavské náměstí market, in Wenceslas Square, will remain open until 6 January 2027. They are, therefore, the main references for those travelling between Christmas and Epiphany.
Other proposals have a much shorter duration. MINT Market Praha Christmas is concentrated on 28 and 29 November; Karlín Christmas Markets is held only on 6 December, and Christmas Lemarket will take place from 11 to 13 December.
To visit several markets during the same trip, staying near Staré Město and Nové Město makes travelling on foot especially easy. Náměstí Republiky, the Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square are in this area, while to get to Vinohrady, Holešovice or Karlín it is practical to use public transport.
Within the Meliá portfolio is INNSiDE Prague Old Town, located at Soukenická 25, in Nové Město. Náměstí Republiky is a short walk away, so the hotel allows you to start a route towards some of the main markets in the historic centre from this area.
| Hotel | Nearby market | Distance/transport | Approximate time | Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| INNSiDE Prague Old Town | Náměstí Republiky | On foot | About 6 min | Close to one of the main markets and the historic centre |
Prague offers different ways to organise a Christmas day. You can start among the stalls at Náměstí Míru and Tylovo náměstí, then return to the centre to walk around Náměstí Republiky and finish in the large squares of Staré Město and Wenceslas. Those looking for something different can reserve another time to discover the independent design of Holešovice or head to Karlín.
The urban setting itself means that the markets are part of the route and do not function only as shopping places. Medieval towers, churches, historic facades and cobbled streets appear constantly between one square and the next. Even the two large markets in the centre offer different atmospheres: one is integrated into the medieval layout of the Old Town and the other occupies one of the large avenues of Nové Město.
But Christmas in Prague is not understood only by its markets. It is also in the traditions that are maintained from generation to generation, in the flavours typical of these dates and in the squares that once again become meeting places during Advent. Between handicraft stalls, winter recipes and customs that are part of the Czech Christmas, the city preserves that spirit of shared celebration that invites you to stay a little longer. Perhaps that is where much of the charm of these dates in Prague lies: in seeing that Christmas not only decorates the city, but is also part of its daily life.
