SFORZESCO CASTLE

  • A museum with important historic and artistic works
  • Begun by los Visconti in the second half of the 14th century and continued in the following century by Francesco I Sforza, Lord of Milan
  • The work was directed by Giovanni da Milano and Filarete who built the tower at the entrance 

THE MONASTERY OF SANTA MARÍA DELLE GRAZIE

  • Building of the church was begun by Giovanni Solari in 1463 and later transformed in 1492 by Donato Bramante
  • On one wall of the former convent next to the church is the famous painting of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci

THE ALLA SCALA THEATRE

  • The world’s largest opera house, built in 1778
  • It opened on 3 August with the opera by the great Italian composer Antonio Salieri "L'Europa Riconosciuta"
  • Temple of world and Italian opera, it has witnessed memorable performances by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Gioacchino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti and Vincenzo Bellini and the triumphs by Toscanini

GIUSEPPE MEAZZA STADIUM - SCALA DEL CALCIO

  • The Giuseppe Meazza stadium (in Italian: Stadio Giuseppe Meazza; often called by its previous name, San Siro, district in which it is located) is a football stadium in the city of Milan, Italy. It is the home ground for AC Milan and Inter Milán.
  • It was opened on 19 September 1926 in a match with the two Milan teams, which ended up in a win (6 - 3) for Inter. On the 3 March 1980 it was renamed in honour of Giuseppe Meazza, world double champion with Italy and ex-player of both Inter and AC Milán.

THE CATHEDRAL (DUOMO)

  • Gothic in style with a neo-gothic façade, it is 157 metres long and can hold up to 40,000 people
  • Construction started in 1387 and that lasted five centuries
  • Inside it contains a great many monuments and works of art such as the sarcophagus of Archbishop Diego Hualde, the tombs of archbishops Ottone and Giovanni Visconti, the three magnificent altars by Pellegrini, the statue of Sant Bartolomé of Marco da Agrate, the Arcimboldo monument and the neo-classical baptistery by Pellegrini…

  • Located next to the cathedral, covered in a large glass domed roof  in the shape of  a Latin cross
  • Here you will find the city’s most famous cafés and shops, such as Prada, Massimo Dutti, Gucci and Louis Vuitton

OTHER ATTRACTIONS

  • The Royal Palace. Currently an important cultural centre, home of exhibitions and shows
  • The Pinacoteca de Brera, the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the Poldi Pezzoli Museum and Castello Museum galleries. Home to a large number of masterpieces
  • Bagatti Valsecchi Museum. Nineteenth century home inspired by the stately homes of the Cinquecento Lombard, decorated with Italian Renaissance objects and furniture
  • Natural History Museum. Important collection of minerals, fossils, plants and animals
  • The Ospedale Maggiore. Located in the centre of Milan, and was designed to house the city’s main hospital 

SANT AMBROGIO

  • Basilica founded by Sant Ambrogio in 386,  structure which still remains today despite the reconstructions during the 9th to the 12th centuries, which made it a model of Lombard architecture

  • Location of Bagatti Valsecchi Museum, a house-museum inspired by the stately homes of the Cinquecento Lombard, decorated with Italian Renaissance objects and furniture
