A HOTEL WITH HISTORY

The Gran Meliá Victoria, more than 100 years of history

The Gran Meliá Victoria is not only one of the major luxury hotels in Mallorca, it is also a living legend in the historic and cultural evolution of the city itself. Few hotels on the island have over 100 years of history, even fewer always linked to the main intellectual, social, cultural and artistic movements of the time.

An icon in the city of Palma

“Villa Victoria”, as it was known in the early twentieth century, experienced the changes of the 1920s with great intensity, being, as it was, a reference point in the aristocratic tastes of the decade. A social role that both yesterday and today have made it a quite unique place, a living icon of the city of Palma.

Neither the Civil War nor the hardships of the Second World War could close its doors. It was always open, offering the best service. With this track record, it is no wonder that the Gran Meliá Victoria has written its own history throughout the years.

Such was the influx of the 50s and 60s, boom times for tourism in Mallorca, that in 1963 the Hotel Victoria closed its doors to be demolished and rebuilt so that it could continue offering its characteristic service and hospitality with the most modern facilities of the time.

Hallmark of the Meliá group

So on 5 June, 1965 saw the reopening of what is now the Gran Meliá Victoria, one of the bastions of the Sol Meliá Group which is currently Meliá Hotels International.

Don Luis Gutiérrez Soto and Don Luis Moreno de Cala, architect and interior designer of the new building, provided it with a classic ambience of simple elegance. The refined English style of its welcoming interior, enhanced by the beauty of the decorative items of ploychrome Baroque angels, finely decorated ceramics, wonderful 18th century tapestries and valuable pieces of 18th and 19th century art, made every corner into a unique place.

Recognised international fame

Its quality and prestige have allowed it to become part of the inner circle of the International Luxury Hotel Association and have earned it a coveted prize: the Gold Plaque for Tourist Merit.

After several subsequent renovations, the Gran Meliá Victoria is located in the heart of the Paseo Marítimo of Palma, overlooking the bay and Palma Cathedral and is considered THE hotel of the city with an offer that meets the most demanding needs of business and leisure travellers.
