MILAN, HISTORY, ART AND CULTURE

The city boasts an important part of Italy's architectural and artistic heritage: the Cathedral, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Accademia di Brera, the Museo del Novecento, Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper and countless churches, palaces and museums all over the city. Milan is also a crucible of contemporary art and design, examples of which may be admired at Triennale di Milano, the Prada and Trussardi Foundations, Armani Silos, Pirelli Hangar Bicocca and the contemporary art galleries sprinkled around the city.

Milan's new Porta Nuova district, with its ultra-modern Piazza Gae Aulenti and its splendid skyscrapers, including the amazing “Bosco Verticale” (or vertical forest) - one of the world's most beautiful skyscrapers - have altered the city's skyline and made it one of the most interesting in Europe.

PLACES OF INTEREST IN MILAN

Milan is definitely the most modern, advanced city in Italy. It's impossible to spend time in the city without dropping by Via Montenapoleone or Via della Spiga, the best known streets in the city's fashion district, or “quadrilatero della moda”, where the most prominent Italian and international brands have their boutiques. From the fashion district, continue on to Brera, the medieval heart of Milan and a fascinating hangout for artists and intellectuals, and then go on to the modern Porta Garibaldi and Corso Como area not far from Piazza della Repubblica. Innovative restaurants, showrooms, trendy nightspots and modern skyscrapers housing some of the world's most important financial enterprises have transformed the neighborhood into the city's new finance and entertainment hub.

Stop at a café in the city center and take a relaxing break over excellent Italian cocktails. Milan provides plenty of gastronomic variety, with restaurants offering cuisines from all parts of Italy and the world.

As an elegantly stylish fashion and design capital, Milan hosts plenty of international events, including “La settimana della Moda Donna”, or Women's Fashion Week every February and September, and “La settimana della Moda Uomo”, or Men's Fashion Week in January and June, as well as “Salone Internazionale del Mobile”, the International Furniture Show, in April: the event for which the city is best known.
