The triangular site of the ME London Hotel located on the corner of Aldwych and the Strand was once the home of the popular Gaiety Theatre that was damaged during the war and demolished to make way for an office development in the 1960’s.
The newly built hotel is also adjacent to the recently restored Marconi House that was the former home of the BBC and where their first radio broadcast took place in 1922.
During excavation of the site for the hotel, both The London Museum and English Heritage were present and remnants of a public house were discovered in the basement.
