The Gran Meliá Victoria Hotel is not only one of the leading luxury hotels in Mallorca, it is also a living record of the historical and cultural development of the city itself. Few hotels on the island have more than a hundred years of history linked to the major intellectual, social, cultural and artistic movements of the times.
A city iconThe “Villa Victoria”, as the hotel was known at the beginning of the twentieth century, was at the centre of the tumultuous changes of the 1920s, a symbol of the aristocratic tastes of the decade. A social role that in both the past and present have made it a unique place, a living icon in the city.
Neither the Civil War nor the hardships of World War II could close its doors; they were always open to offer the best possible service. With this background, it is not surprising that the Gran Meliá Victoria has written its own history over the years.
In the 50s and 60s the growth in demand caused by the tourism boom in Mallorca meant that in 1963 the Hotel Victoria closed its doors to be demolished and rebuilt, so that its could continue providing its famous service and hospitality with the most up to date facilities of the time.
On June 5th, 1965, the Hotel Meliá Victoria was reopened, one of the bastions of Sol Meliá, now named Meliá Hotels International. Luís Gutiérrez Soto and Luís Moreno de Cala, architect and designer of the new hotel, gave life to its classic, understated elegance.
Its charming interior in elegant English style, marked by the beauty of its decoration such as the polychrome Baroque angels, finely decorated ceramics, splendid 18th century tapestries, some flamenco style, and valuable, well preserved examples of 18th and 19th century art, has transformed every corner of the hotel into a timeless and unique place.
The hotel’s quality and prestige have allowed it to join the restricted Association of Top Class International Hotels and have earned it a well deserved and highly coveted award: the Gold Plaque for Tourism Merit.
The Gran Meliá Victoria has seen many different renovation projects over the years. It is located in the heart of the Paseo Marítimo in Palma, overlooking the bay and Palma de Mallorca Cathedral. It is regarded as the hotel in the city, offering services and facilities that meet the needs of the most discerning business and leisure travellers.
A past which is tangible in every luxurious room decorated in exquisite classical English style, has seen many illustrious visitors become spokespersons for the wonders and hospitality of our island. Amongst the most illustrious:
And many more who, along with the people who visit us every day, are so important to us; our loyal guests who we aim to take care of and satisfy by paying the greatest attention to even the tiniest details, always faithful to the principles that defined our predecessors more than a century ago.
