Oviedo houses the moist representative buildings from the so-called pre-Romanesque Asturian art which was designated a world heritage site by Unesco. Including:

  • Holy Chamber of Oviedo. Chapel located within the architectural complex of the cathedral
  • San Julián de los Prados. Church from the early 9th century, built under the orders of Alfonso II
  • Santa María del Naranco. 9th century palace, built by King Ramiro I, on the nearby Monte Naranco with views of the city. Later converted into a church in the 12th century
  • San Miguel de Lillo. Church dating back to the second half of the 9th century, built next to the former palace with which it forms an architectural complex
  • Foncalada. Monument that houses a fountain, dating from the time of Alfonso III el Magno in the 9th century. The only civil pre-Romanesque art that remains
