THIS IS MY MALAGA
Welcome to my Malaga!
My name is Jesús Baztarrica and I am the sports expert at the Tryp Malaga Alameda. I am going to describe some of the sports activities and places where you can practice sports or simply visit while you are in Malaga. The ideas are classified into different groups. I have done all these activities and they can be done in a day.
We have a unique natural setting for outdoor activities and the great unknown in the Costa del Sol; Los Montes de Malaga natural park. It is a mountain range located just 5 km. to the north of the city. They are high and low hills running parallel to the Mediterranean coast reaching the peak of La Cresta de la Reina with a height of 1,032 meters. I propose a tour to be done either on a mountain bike or on foot: the Molinos de San Telmo-El Boticario route. It is 7 km long and with a climb of 350 m. it is easy to do. It is well signaled and you arrive at a height of 480 m. approximately. During the route you can admire the pretty flora, mainly pine trees, oaks, chestnuts, walnuts and popular amongst others. And if you are lucky, you might see chameleons, foxes, eagles and kites, beside many other animals.
To reach the starting point, go to the upper part of the Ciudad Jardín in the north of Malaga, towards the Botanical Gardens, and next to the gardens you will see the access to the path. You can also take the EMT no.2 bus from Alameda Principal and get off at the last stop which is close to the path.

The Centro Acuático de Malaga is one of the country’s largest facilities for water sports and activities. It’s to the southeast of the city centre, between the A-7 and the coast, near the mouth of the Guadalhorce, at the end of the Carretera de Cádiz district. There are 3 Olympic size pools, jacuzzis, relaxing thermal areas, fitness area and commercial centre with restaurants. You can reach it by taking the no.31 bus from Alameda Principal and getting off at the Sports Palace stop.

If you are in our city and are a basketball fan, don’t miss out on visiting or enjoying a match with one of the best teams in the ACB league, Unicaja Baloncesto. The José Maria Martín Carpena Sports Palace is the second largest in the ACB league. It is in the west of the city, next to the Centro Acuático de Malaga. You can reach it by taking the no.31 bus from Alameda Principal and getting off at the Sports Palace stop.

While I know that everyone has their own football colors, all football fans when in Malaga, should visit the Malaga CF Museum.
Malaga CF is a club full of national stars such as Cazorla and Joaquín, both Spanish international players as well as Julio Baptista, Brazilian international player. Malaga CF played in the UEFA Champions League, Europe’s football’s showpiece, during the 2012/13 season.
At the museum you can learn all about the club’s hundred year history. It constitutes a social, cultural, sports and pioneering educational offer in Andalusia, which is relevant on a local, provincial and regional level, as well as being a national and international museum icon, due to the current image of Malaga CF that crosses all borders.
The entrance to the museum is located at “La Rosaleda” entrance for stadium authorities. You can reach it by taking EMT no.17 bus from Alameda Principal.

I don’t know if you know but we are only 40 minutes by car from one of the best international karting circuits, I am talking about Campillos Karting, located in the town of Campillos, where you will find the latest karting technology. I always recommend driving a kart to anyone who has never done it before as it an unrivalled “behind the wheel” sensation. It is also a great group activity, fun is guaranteed.
Ctra. A-384 Km. 101 Campillos. Tel: 951 163120.
I also suggest another activity related to motor racing and that is a visit of the Car Museum. Here you an “El Dorado” 59 Cadillac, an 85 Excalibur and an impressive collection of Rolls Royces.
It is located in the Edf. Tabacalera, Avda. Sor Teresa Prats 15. Tel: 951 137001. Bus lines 16, 3 and 15 from Alameda Principal, getting off at Avenida de la Paloma.
Lastly, I would recommend putting on a pair of running shoes, and go for a run or a walk along the unique setting of the Paseo Marítimo de la Malagueta or the Paseo Marítimo Antonio Machado, preferably early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s not so hot.
