  • The most symbolic building in the city
  • Located in the heart of the old quarter, in Plaza de Belluga
  • Although construction began on the old mosque or aljama in the 14th century, over the next 300 years different parts were added or reformed until the end of the 18th century when its famous tower was completed. For this reason, the cathedral has many different architectural styles: Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque

  • Next to the cathedral is the School of Dramatic Arts and Dance (previously the Seminario Mayor de San Fulgencio) and the Episcopal Palace, both of the 18th century
  • A short distance from the cathedral is the city centre known as La Glorieta. It  is a gardened square built in the 17th century and the location of the Casa Consistorial (the Town Hall)
  • If you want to appreciate the medieval fabric of the Andalusian era stroll through the pedestrian streets of la Platería and the famous Trapería which lead you into the Plaza de la Cruz and the Plaza de Santo Domingo, one of the most popular meeting places for the locals

  • Inside the monastery is the remains of al-Qasr al-Sagir, an Arabic palace built in the 13th century with its water feature, flowerbeds, part of the north lounge and late Gothic cloister

TEATRO ROMEA

  • Located in Plaza de Julian Romea, it was opened in 1862 by Isabel II
  • Originally called the Teatro de los Infantes and later the Teatro de la Soberanía Popular
  • Today its current name is a tribute to the Murcia actor Julian Romea
