GIJÓN AQUARIUM TOUR

GIJÓN AQUARIUM TOUR

  • We recommend you visit Gijón Aquarium
  • It has 2,000 m² of exhibition space with 60 salt and fresh water tanks, an auditorium for events, an educational room measuring 100 m² and a recovery room for marine mammals and reptiles. There are about 250 species of animals including fish, invertebrates, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds
  • The highlights include the 8 sharks measuring between 1.5 and 2 metres in length from Florida. In total, there are around 5,000 individual animals and over time the aquarium expects to house between 7,000-8,000 animals

CIMADEVILLA DISTRICT TOUR

CIMADEVILLA DISTRICT TOUR

  • Our experts in the city recommend you visit the district of Cimadevilla, the oldest part of the city, as there are Roman archaeological remains, including the Roman Baths
  • Its location on a walled hill, which is isolated at high tide, made Cimadevilla an important stronghold until its destruction during the war between Enrique III, future first prince of Asturias, and his uncle Alfonso Enríquez, Count of Noreña and Gijón
  • There is a park on top of Santa Catalina hill where you can find the “Elogio del Horizonte” sculpture by Eduardo Chillida

THE LAKES OF COVADONGA ROUTE

THE LAKES OF COVADONGA ROUT

  • The TRYP Gijón Rey Pelayo recommends a visit to the lakes of Covadonga  (called the Llagos de Cuadonga or the Llagos d'Enol in Asturian)
  • Formed by two small lakes, Enol and Ercina, the lakes are located in the Asturian part of the Picos de Europa National Park, in the western massif of this rocky mountain chain
  • There is a third lake, Bricial, which only has water during the summer ice melt. In Asturias they are known simply as the Lakes
  • Located in the municipality of Cangas de Onís, they can be reached by a 14 km road that starts at the Real Sitio de Covadonga which reaches the lake of Enol first
