Elche has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: El Palmeral and El Misteri.

  • El Palmeral contains more than 11,000 palm trees and is the largest palm grove in Europe. It is a prime example of integrated conservation of natural specimens in the city
  • El Misteri d’Elx (the Elche Mystery) was declared one of the masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. It is a liturgical drama dating from the Middle Ages which is still enacted and celebrated today thanks to the work of the whole town who has maintained alive a unique example of our traditional culture

The city also hosts the International Festival of Independent Cinema (last week of July) which shows hundreds of short films in a cinema environment surrounded by spectacular palm trees
