Genoa is located on the west coast of Italy in the region of Liguria. Its was probably founded by the Etruscans and the Greeks in one of the hills of Sarzana.

  • Piazza De Ferrari built in the second half of the nineteenth century, and around which are the Opera and Ducal Palace. In the nearby Piazza Dante is the house where Christopher Columbus was said to be born
  • San Lorenzo Cathedral reconstructed in the 11th and 12th centuries
  • The old port transformed into a mall by the architect Renzo Piano
  • The famous Staglieno cemetery known for its monuments and statues
  • The Museum of Oriental Art has one of the most extensive collections of oriental art in Europe
  • The 19th century neo-Gothic castle, Castillo D'Albertis, was the home of explorer Enrico Alberto D'Albertis and currently houses the Museum of World Cultures
  • The Genova Aquarium located in the old bay is the second largest in the European Union
  • The port of Genoa also contains an ancient lighthouse, called the Torre della Lanterna, symbol of the city. Boccadasse is a picturesque fishing district in the eastern part of the city
  • The National Gallery housed in the Spinola Palace (16th century) includes furniture, decorations, paintings and sculptures that the Spinola family donated to the state in 1958. The museum preserves the appearance of a private art gallery and reflects the tastes of the Genoese nobility of centuries past
