Paris is the capital of France and, along with London, is the most important financial city in Europe. Paris is also the most popular tourist destination in the world, with more than 42 million visitors a year

It is also home to internationally famous institutions: the Louvre (the most famous and popular museum in the world), the Orsay Museum and the French National Natural History Museum.
Paris has played an important part in western cultural and artistic history. Many of the most famous French people were born, trained or worked here, including René Descartes, Molière, Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Alexandre Dumas, Edgar Degas and Claude Monet, amongst many others.
