Nessebar - a particularly beautiful ancient resort-town, located on the southerly coastline of the Black Sea inBulgaria, is among the most popular destinations for family tourism. Often referred to as the “Pearlof theBlack Sea”, Nessebar is a rich city-museum, defined by more than three millennia of ever-changing history. With its abundance of historic buildings and ancient churches, Nessebar was included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1983.
The ancient town is on a romantic rocky peninsula, connected to the mainland via a narrow isthmus. Valuable monuments from all stages of its long existence are preserved here: remnants of fortress walls from Roman times and the middle Ages, old Byzantine and Bulgarian churches, antique 18th and 19th century houses. Various events and concerts are held at the ancient theatre in Old Nessebar in the summer. Behind it lies theNessebarPortwhere during the active summer season one can often see cruise ships which have stopped by the UNESCO town.
The romantic souls would prefer to have a walk in theOldTown, while young people would have more fun in the new part of Nessebar and the nearby resort of Slanchev bryag (SunnyBeach). In the summer the two resorts are connected by bus services which also operate to and from other destinations in the region.
