São Paulo welcomes over 11 million visitors a year. The city has 280 cinemas, 184 clubs, 180 theatres, 90 cultural centres, 146 libraries, 51 shopping centres and 95 parks and gardens. To this we have to add the 15,000 restaurants – which offer cuisine from more than 52 different countries– and then you get an idea of what São Paulo has to offer. Besides being the country’s major destination for business, it is also the best cultural destination and Brazil’s city with greatest tourist potential.
As if the number of permanent attractions of São Paulo weren’t enough, its tourism offer also has about 90,000 annual events that are held in the city throughout the year. In this sense, the TRYP Tatuapé offers a privileged location in the east of the city as it is easy to reach the places that hold the major events. The Pavilhão de Exposições do Anhembi, for example, which hosts 30% of the trade fairs in the city, is less than 20 minutes by car from the hotel and the Expo Center Norte, is less than 15 minutes.
Art and museums
The Pavilhão Ciccillo Matarazzo is located in the Parque Ibirapuera and houses the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC), obligatory stops if you like art. The Ibirapuera is the most important city park and the third largest. A place that, undoubtedly, deserves to be visited.
There is also a lot of art at the Museum of Art of São Paulo, which together with Avenida Paulista, are top of the list of popular tourist attractions. The two – the MASP is in Avenida Paulista – are a little over 10 minutes by car from the TRYP Tatuapé.
Other attractions, not to be missed and relatively close to the hotel, include the Museum of the Portuguese Language, in the Estação da Luz (14 minutes by car); the Ipiranga Museum, in the Parque da Independência (15 minutes by car); the Museum of Football, in the Estádio do Pacaembu (16 minutes by car); the History of Japanese Immigration to Brazil Museum, in the city centre (12 minutes by car), the Image and Sound Museum, in Jardín Europa (18 minutes by car), and the Casa do Tatuapé, which forms part of the City of São Paulo Museum which is a half an hour walk from the hotel.
GastronomyIt is not easy to define the gastronomy which best typifies São Paulo, as the city has a exceptional variety of national and international cuisine. However, the pizza is one of the highlights, being famous throughout Brazil, and the mortadela sandwich, prepared in a unique and delicious way.
The main dishes are:
Tatuapé: the locals’ favourite
To make the most of your stay, there is nothing better than asking for suggestions about the destination from someone who has been there before, or better still, from the people who live there. So accept the suggestions from the city’s inhabitants: Tatuapé is the favourite neighbourhood of the residents of São Paulo.
This conclusion was the result of a survey conducted by APPM, a analysis, research and marketing company which asked local people on the streets of São Paulo which was their favourite neighbourhood. Tatuapé was the most popular answer.
In this privileged location, the TRYP Tatuapé has offered exclusive, comfortable and functional accommodation for over a decade and is the only hotel of its type in the area. The area is known for its sophisticated buildings and for being one of the busiest in the eastern part of the city. Within walking distance from the hotel, guests can find shops, pharmacies, bakeries, restaurants, bars and theatres, as well as three shopping centres (Shopping Metrô Tatuapé, Shopping Metrô Boulevard Tatuapé and Shopping Anália Franco).
If you want to venture a little further away, the neighbourhood has a good taxi service and excellent public transport, including a metro stop. It offers easy access to the city’s main avenues and roads, such as Marginal do Rio Tietê, Avenida Radial Leste, Avenida 23 de Maio, Avenida Salim Farah Maluf, Rodovia Airton Senna and Rodovia Presidente Dutra.
