Brasilia was begun in 1956 and today attracts tourists from all over the world who, in part, wish to see the architectural projects of Oscar Niemeyer. The Meliá Brasil 21 is strategically located in the Eixo Monumental, between the television tower and the Parque da Cidade, and offers easy access to the tourist attractions such as the Esplanada dos Ministérios and the Pátio Brasil shopping centre.
Make time to visit the Praça dos Três Poderes, where you can see the National Congress, the Palácio do Planalto and the Supreme Court. Another major attraction is the Palácio da Alvorada, where the President of the republic lives.
If you like art, then don’t miss the Brasilia Art Museum which houses an important collection of modern and contemporary works. The Palácio do Itamaraty, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is also one of the country’s most important tourist attractions. On the second floor of the building is the table where Princess Isabel signed the Aúrea Law.
For those who want something outdoors, be sure to visit the largest private forest in the Federal District: the Chapada Imperial. Here there are 33 natural waterfalls, ecological trails, rappelling, camping, tree climbing and cabins. Another suggestion is the Piscinão do Lago Norte.
